Brand new libraries are wonderful, but they are even better when the community comes together to help fill the shelves with brand new books!
The 5th annual community Book Drive in support of the Library Project raised nearly $19,000—almost double the previous year. As a result, we were able to purchase 2,700 brand new, hardcover children’s books for this year’s schools. Every year, during the Book Drive, students at current Library Project schools “pay it forward” by saving up their change to help buy books at the newest schools. In this year’s Penny Challenge, students collected more than $3,400! Nine schools participated this year including the winner—Commodore John Rodgers—where students collected more than $1,400 for the newest Library Project schools. In total, over the past four years, these community-wide Book Drives have resulted in more than $48,000 in donations. That astounding number translates into nearly 7,000 additional books on the shelves of these new libraries—and all because of individuals and organizations who care about learning and literacy!
