Thomas Johnson Elementary/Middle School

Thomas Johnson Elementary/Middle School is located in the historic Federal Hill neighborhood of South Baltimore. The school serves students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight, with an early learning program for three-year-olds. The average class size is 19 students, and all classes are taught by teachers who meet the “Highly Qualified” standards required under the No Child Left Behind Act. The school building was partially renovated in 2008, including the addition of a state-of-the-art computer lab and science lab. In 2010, new computers were purchased for the computer lab and for every classroom, and a new playground was built in 2011.

In addition to the core subjects of reading, math, science, and social studies, which all students receive, the following classes and programs are also available:

Spanish, art, computers & technology, instrumental music (band and strings), physical education, dance, drama, algebra, robotics, advanced literature, and reading and math academies. There are also numerous extracurricular programs, activities, and events.
